Six million people’s online safety protected by new deal

18 March 2011

Identity verification technology from NetIDme has been adopted by internet chat provider, Noesis – protecting 6million users’ online safety and reducing the threat of cyber bullying.

World’s biggest chat provider, Noesis has just signed a deal with identity specialists, NetIDme in a bid to guard the safety of their 6 million users worldwide.

The move came the day following President Obama’s renewed emphasis on cyber bullying at the White House Bullying Prevention Summit.  The NetIDme – Noesis venture will help to reduce the risk of such bullying, facilitate the protection of children from online predators and reduce instances of communities being infiltrated by unwanted impersonators.

With the NetIDme system in place, Noesis users will be able to verify their identity when interacting with other chatters.  Upon completion of NetIDme’s verification process, users will receive their own unique NetID.  Using this they will be able to prove their first name, age, sex and general location safely if they wish to, without giving out any other personal identifiable information. The level of information shared between chatters strikes the delicate balance of being informative enough to verify credentials without revealing personally identifiable information and so contributes towards preventing identity theft.

Providing verification of identity represents a step in the right direction towards discouraging  stalking, bullying and other forms of anti-social behaviour in a chat room setting. Although the NetID does not disclose everything about the individual, NetIDs in effect removeanonymity from interactions – a large contributing factor in poor online behaviour.

As a result of the NetIDme – Noesis link up, children will be able to interact with other children, safe in the knowledge that those they are talking to are indeed the age they say they are.  Consequently, concerns of parents will be eased as youngsters are shielded from interactions with individuals of an inappropriate age or who are prone to inappropriate behaviour.

The protection provided by this link up extends to chatters of all ages.
